New for facing the challenges of this year, FCTS is offering an option for students to participate in school through a fully remote learning plan.
With the permission of the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, FCTS has partnered with Edgenuity Online to provide a fully remote, online learning platform for our students in all grades. This is an option for students who are not taking part in the standard option this year, our Hybrid Learning Model, where students are in school, in person, every other day.
Courses are rigorous and align with MA Common Core standards. For more information, please see below, or contact the guidance office at 413.863.9561 x122.

FRANKLIN COUNTY TECHNICAL SCHOOL
Franklin County Technical School has been approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to provide a Remote Learning option for students in the 2020-2021 school year through an Edgenuity Online.
Edgenuity is a fully online, private company that provides schools with independent, individualized online curriculums for students in any grade. Through Edgenuity, students are able to continue pursuing a high school diploma through the internet from most locations. This allows students to study from home and to organize their day to day time in a way that suits their needs.
DETAILS
Students in the Edgenuity Remote Plan (ERP) will take classes via Edgenuity. Please visit their website at www.edgenuity.com
Courseload
Students will take 5 year-long courses, 4 Academic and 1 Vocational class. Seniors who are on Coop will not need to take the Vocational course and will take 4 academic courses.
Classes
Determined by FCTS admin and teacher recommendation to align with MA Common Core standards.
Schedule
Students will keep their own schedule and do not need to adhere to the FCTS bell or calendar schedules (“asynchronous”), although consistent engagement and progress through their courses will be monitored and encouraged by FCTS faculty.
Grading
Grading will follow FCTS grading periods. At each marking period student grades will be determined by their grade at that time in each Edgenuity class. For example, when FCTS grades for Semester 1 close, the grade at that time will be recorded for Edgenuity classes.
Schedule/Plan changes (Add/Drop period)
Students who have chosen to participate in the ERP have until the end of the Add/Drop period to request any changes including changing to the FCTS Hybrid Learning Plan. Any other changes will not be possible after the close of the Add/Drop Period during Semester 1. At the end of Semester 1, students may opt to change from the ERP to the Hybrid Learning plan.
ERP students should not be impacted by any covid-19 related closures or changes for students in the Hybrid Learning model. If FCTS experiences a return to remote learning for all students, those already enrolled in Edgenuity courses will stay in those courses for the remainder of the semester or year.
Student Support
Students and Families have access to the Edgenuity Virtual Tutors. This is the primary source for students to receive help with their coursework.
In addition, FCTS will provide faculty support to assist students and families with the online learning platform and provide strategies for student success. The FCTS Edgenuity support team includes faculty to support academic coursework as well as support staff such as guidance counselors and Special Education personell. Faculty supports are available during set office hours as well as throughout the scheduled school day.
Technology and Internet Access
All FCTS students, including those on the ERP, are provided a Chromebook for their classes. Students who do not have access to reliable internet have the option to use the FCTS school library for their Edgenuity classes and work. Access to the library will be granted through Nate May, Director of Pupil Services, to enable established social distancing measures for students utilizing this space.
Student Edgenuity Accounts
The ERP Team will contact students with the courses and instructions for accessing their Edgenuity Accounts between Sept 16-21.
Parent/Guardian Accounts/Parent Information
The ERP Team will contact students' parents and guardians with instructions for accessing their Edgenuity Accounts between Sept 16-21. For more information, parents and guardians can go to: Edgenuity Parent Resources

Students who are in the Remote Learning plan through Edgenuity will not be eligible for participation in FCTS Shop activities. This plan has been approved by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and will serve as a path for students from all vocational areas to earn a FCTS High School Diploma.
Students participating in Edgenuity Remote Plan will not accrue shop hours towards vocational certification, but will earn credit toward graduation from FCTS.
