Health Technology & Medical Assisting

Health Technology and Medical Assisting is an exceptional program that provides a variety of educational experiences in the classroom, skills laboratory, and at community sites that prepare students for careers in the fast-growing field of health and human services.

Patient care is a top priority, and our students receive instruction in anatomy and physiology, growth and development, medical terminology, patient care, aging, infectious disease, mental health, emergency medical response, and nutrition.

Through site placements in the community, students gain greater insight into human growth and development.  They also will acquire foundational skills in nursing assisting and learn to care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease, other forms of dementia, and mental health diagnoses.

Career opportunities exist in human service agencies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, recreation centers, medical offices, private homes, and more. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in healthcare occupations is projected to grow 14% from 2018 to 2028, much faster than the average for all occupations.

Projects

FCTS, as the regional vocational high school of Franklin County, does so much more than teach in a lab classroom and simulation environment. As a true extension of the classroom, authentic health-related projects can be an important facet in the learning environment. Real-world projects truly provide the students with an opportunity to apply what they have learned. Our students thrive on authentic work! You can demonstrate and practice a skill but there is nothing like using those skills for real, under the direction of your instructor who acts as the supervisor. Health Technology students engage in work and skills in FCTS and on work experience sites including hospitals, nursing homes, and EMT agencies. These students are preparing for the many, varied career paths available in the healthcare industry.

Certifications

Be prepared for a rewarding career in the healthcare industry. Along with a solid academic foundation, you’ll also gain real-world knowledge that will give you a competitive edge in the growing healthcare job market. Students will receive their certification in nursing assistant, home health aide, CPR, and first aid.
